A flight from the United States to Germany diverted to Shannon Airport this morning after the crew declared a medical emergency off the southwest coast of Ireland.
Lufthansa flight LH-415 was travelling from Washington to Munich at the time. The Airbus A380-800 Super Jumbo was about 100kms west of the Dingle Peninsula when the crew advised air traffic controllers that they wished to reroute to Shannon.
Authorities and ground services at Shannon Airport were advised of the unscheduled arrival while the National Ambulance Service was also alerted and requested to mobilise resources to the airport.
The flight landed shortly after 9.30am and was met at the terminal by airport staff and ambulance paramedics.
The passenger was assessed at the scene before being removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
The flight continued its journey to Munich at 11.10am.
