Several other boat owners in the area had attempted to assist the man however their efforts were unsuccessful.

The boat is understood to have lost power after running out of fuel and became pinned to the bridge by the strong current.

The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard Unit was alerted and requested to respond to the incident.

Coast Guard volunteers threw a line to the boat and managed to pulled it clear of the fenders before it became water logged.

The casualty vessel was towed to a nearby jetty where it was confirmed the occupant was unharmed and his boat undamaged.
