Currently Dermot is in eighth place with over seven hundred votes. With nineteen days remaining in the competition he is appealing to the people of Clare to get behind one of their own. He is the only nomination from the Banner County.

At present Dublin footballer Shane Carty has the highest amount of votes, comedian Rory O’Connor, rugby player Sophie Spence and entrepreneur Sarah O’Connor are some of the nominees ahead of Sheedy.

Formed in 2010, acoustic folk rock band, Hermitage Green have gone on to become one of the most popular bands in Ireland. Sheedy is one of five members in the band alongside Darragh Graham, Darragh Griffin and the Murphy brothers Dan and Barry whose grandfather hails from Newmarket-on-Fergus.

Dermot is a self-taught percussionist who specialises in the bodhran and drums. Sheedy has previously won seven All-Ireland titles but for now he is determined to be voted as a Nissan Generation Next Ambassador.

Ten people who exemplify the drive to succeed in their chosen field will be given a brand new, taxed and insured Nissan to drive for a year as part of the innovative Nissan Generation Next ambassador programme. The Nissan Generation Next programme is designed to support ambitious Irish people, from whatever walk of life, who have the drive and determination to become tomorrow’s leaders.

CEO of Nissan Ireland, James McCarthy is inspired by the ambassadors in this unique programme. “Nissan Generation Next is all about helping the best and brightest on the road to success. It is open to anyone who is passionate, committed and working hard to achieve their goals. Our Nissan Generation Next ambassadors are truly inspirational. They only see what is possible and their ability to forge ahead and to find creative solutions to the challenges and obstacles that they encounter is something that we at Nissan are only too happy to support”.

“These people really are the leaders of tomorrow” he concluded.

Voting is open for the next nineteen days and individuals will be able to cast their vote every single day.
