Fr Fintan Monahan the Bishop Elect of the Killaloe diocese will be ordained next month.
Ennis’ Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul will host the ordination on Sunday September 25th at 3pm. The date was decided at the first planning meeting which Monahan chaired, that gathering took place at The Bishops House on Tuesday night. A busy six weeks is ahead for those involved in putting preparations in place for the event.
Tullamore native Fr Monahan was announced as the bishop elect of the Killaloe Diocese at the end of July which will bring an end to an eighteen month period since the departure of his predecessor Kieran O’Reilly who is the current Archbishop of Cashel & Emly. That period was the longest in over two hundred and fifty years for the Diocese to be without a Bishop
Meanwhile it is expected the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora will be without a Bishop for at least twelve months. This comes following the resignation of Bishop Martin Drennan for health reasons. Canon Michael McLoughlin has been appointed Diocesan Administrator.
