Gardaí are investigating the death of a teenager in Co Clare early today.
The alarm was raised at around 6.40am when a motorist reported she had collided with something on a country road near Killimer.
The woman stopped her car and returned to the scene where she found a 15-year-old boy lying injured on the roadside.
Its understood the victim may have been lying on the roadside or suffered a fall before the car collided with him. Gardaí and ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene.
The victim was later pronounced dead and his body removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will take place this evening.
Gardaí will await the results of the post mortem before they determine the course of their investigation.
It’s hoped the autopsy will tell gardaí whether the victim died as a result of being struck by the vehicle.
The road at the scene remains closed while a technical examination takes places.
