Solutions to an annual flooding risk in one Ennis housing estate are currently being examined by Clare County Council.

At the January meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Cllr Johnny Flynn outlined his concerns for residents in the county town. “I am calling on Ennis Municipal District of Clare County Council to carry out flood relief works that are necessary in order to alleviate the annual recurring flooding risk to rear of the first four houses near the railway line along Corrovorrin Avenue”.

Correspondence had previously been received by the Council from residents of Corrovorrin Avenue and Cllr Flynn in 2016. “We are in the process of examining the location and finding solutions to the problem”, said Eamon O’Dea, senior executive engineer with the local authority.

Flynn was thankful to O’Dea for the response and acknowledged the recent work to solve the long-term flooding problem at the same location. He is fearful that traditional surface water routes from the railway tracks have been affected. The Fine Gael councillor noted that “the council put in little flood water works thirty years ago”.

“It is causing concern because these people went in as young couples and they’re now elderly”, Cllr Flynn concluded. His motion was seconded by Mayor of Ennis, Cllr Ann Norton.
