Burren Racing team brought its road racing season to a close at the Charleville two-day last week.
Burren RT has had a fantastic season with some notable results, Category A1 rider Mark Shannon winning the Newcastlewest Classic in May & the Clare County Championships in June. In the A3 category Clarecastle’s Stephen Geraghty had a fine win at the North Tipp GP in July. In their categories Ger Troy & Finbar Conheady achieved hard fought victories at the Newcastlewest Classic, Crotty Cup in Kilmihil & stage 1 of the Charleville 2 day in September.
Burren have also had several top 10 finishes in races throughout the country with some standout performances from Kilmaley’s Brendan Talty, Jarlath Hassett, Neil Acheson & Gary Macdonald.
At the recent Clare Time Trial Championships Burren won/ podiumed in the A2, A3 & A4 categories.
The team have riders competing in A1 to A4 categories in road racing, cyclocross & mountain biking. The team’s focus now that the road racing season is over is racing the upcoming National Mountain biking championships.
Burren RT have riders in youth, junior & ladies races this year with some standout results in local & national races from Clooney’s Danny Macdonald, Newmarket on Fergus’s Ciaran Russell & New Quay’s Laura Shannon.
As well as racing Burren RT have provided technical support to Tour De Burren, Ring of Clare & Turas Na Mban leisure sportives. The team is also one of the founding members of the successful Clare Cycle League, Munster Cyclocross league & Ultimate Burren Mountain Bike event in Ballyvaughan.
The upcoming Ennis Cyclocross event , taking place in Lees Road on Sunday the 8th of October is an event hosted by Burren RT to facilitate the growth of cyclocross in the region.
Commenting on the 2017 season a team spokesman said: “2017 has been an exceptional season to date for Burren Racing Team- and there is plenty more racing to come with some of our riders racing the Munster Cyclocross league & Mountain Bike national championships. We have achieved some notable results across all categories with some outstanding performances throughout the year. We have seen all our riders develop & improve this season. Developing riders like our junior/youth Danny MacDonald, Ciaran Russell, & Laura Shannon in the ladies category is one of the key drivers for this team. On the senior side team riders raced in Ras Mumhan, the RAS , The Nationals & several races nationwide this season.
We are particularly delighted with the continued success of the Clare Cycle Summer league in Barefield, which we run in association with Clare Crusaders CC, Clare Ladies CC & Ennis Tri Club. Over 105 riders raced & trained in the league this year which is fantastic for the development of both racers & leisure riders.
