In a statement, the White House said Mr Trump wanted to “renew the deep and historic ties between our two nations.”

This will be Mr Trump’s first visit to the country since his inauguration in January 2017. He last visited Co Clare in June 2015 when he stayed at his property in Doonbeg.

During a previous visit in 2014 Mr Trump was controversially met at Shannon Airport by finance Minister Michael Noonan and local public representatives.

The details of his November visit have not been released but it’s expected to be a short stopover, it’s also not known whether he will visit Doonbeg.

During a visit to the UK in July, when he was met by mass protests, he played golf at his resort in Ayrshire, one of two he owns in Scotland.

It Mr Trump decides to visit his Co Clare hotel and golf resort it’s expected he will be met with some opposition. The Green Party has also already called for large scale public demonstrations when Mr Trump visits in November.
