A major investment has been confirmed by broadband provider eir that will involve the delivery of fibre to home services (FTTH) in the Kilkee area by the end of next year.
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey says that eir has also informed him that a fibre to cabinet (FTCC) high speed service will be available in the area during the current year.
“A reliable broadband service is essential not just for local business but for the thousands of people who are based in the town and its environs over the summer months and I am delighted that my representations have resulted in such a welcome response,” Deputy Carey added.
“I received a number of enquiries from local people asking if Eir had any plans to provide a broadband service as the existing service from another provider is unsatisfactory and puts Kilkee at a severe disadvantage.
“I have now been informed by eir’s director of public services Pat Galvin that the company’s FTTH service will deliver broadband speeds of up to 1Gigabit to each premises by the end of 2018 and this represents a significant improvement on current band speeds.
Deputy Carey said that mapping information is available at www.fibrerollout.ie with the FTTH network illustrated on the map by blue lines and the FTTC service illustrated by a blue dot on the map.
