Domhnall Slattery of Ennis is to be acknowledged for his contribution to aviation with a special award.
On Wednesday he will receive the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Aviation Award for 2016’ at the Aviation Awards which take place at the Hilton Hotel in Dublin.
In accepting the award Domhnall follows in the footsteps of Ryanair co-founder Tony Ryan and IAG boss Willie Walsh.
Slattery co-founded Avolon six years ago and is currently CEO of the company. Avolon is soon to become the third largest aircraft lessor in the world when its takeover of rival CIT completes. Its acquisition of CIT was announced recently in what will be a multi-billion dollar deal.
Patrick Blaney, chairman of the Aircraft Leasing, Finance and Law Programme at UCD Graduate School of Business and a member of the judging panel said of the Clareman “Domhnal Slattery has, over a 27-year career, established himself and those businesses which he has led, as global leaders”.
A past pupil of Ennis National School and St Flannan’s College, Domhnall has made quiet the mark on the aviation industry. He also co-founded The Clare People and is the majority owner of the newspaper.
