The third annual Pat Keogh Construction, iTri Inis triathlon which was hosted by Ennis Triathlon club took place at Ballyalla Lake yesterday (Saturday).
A packed field of over three hundred competitors braved the wet conditions to take part in one of Ireland’s premier triathlon events. Children from six to fifteen took part in triathlon events of varying distances.
They were followed by the two adult events which were made up of a The Try a Tri race, this event consisted of a two hundred meter swim, a twenty kilometre cycle and a five kilometre run. Following the Tri a Tri was the National Series Sprint triathlon.
The Sprint event was made up of three waves with the competitors completing a seven hundred and fifty meter swim, a twenty kilometre cycle and a five kilometre run.
In the iTri sprint event, Tom McEnery was the first male across the line in a time of one hour, three minutes and eight seconds. Lisa Horgan was the first female home in a time of one hour eleven minutes and forty eight seconds.
The partner charity for this years “Pat Keogh Construction, iTri Inis triathlon” was the Liam Boland Fundraising appeal. This appeal is in aid of Liam Boland who is originally from Connolly, Co.Clare and now lives in Perth Australia. Liam was involved in a debilitating accident on June 3rd last. A white Collar boxing event has been organized in Tracey’s West County Hotel on September 30th with the proceeds going to aid his recovery.
