Clare’s involvement in the 2016 Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship concluded on Saturday.
Wexford 7-12
Clare 1-05
Venue: Corofin
The scoreline tells its own story as a championship to forgot for Clare drew to a close on Saturday.
Wexford showed why they’re still in the hunt for the O’Duffy Cup with a commanding twenty five point win over a Clare outfit who have failed to get going in any of their five championship outings.
A brace of goals from Una Leacy put daylight between the teams in the second quarter as the Yellow Bellies exerted their control. With thirteen minutes on the clock three points separated the teams, five minutes later and the distance was nine points as Clare’s continued their trend of conceding goals in a very short amount of time.
Six minutes later and Wexford had hit the back of the net on a further two occasions to seal the result before the half-time whistle had sounded. Clare registered a single score in the first half as their opponents boasted a tally of 4-08.
It didn’t get better either after the interval as Wexford raised three more green flags to set them on their way for the knockout stages of the All-Ireland Championship.
For Clare it puts an end to their worst ever campaign since returning to the Senior ranks in 2009.
