1915 – Thomas Joseph Lynch of Doora was killed in France fighting with the Royal Engineers.
1916 – Private Thomas Ryan from Newmarket-on-Fergus – a member of the 2nd battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers – was just 17 years old when he was killed in action on a quiet part of the line.
1998 – European finance ministers rejected Ireland’s call for a study into the consequences of abolishing duty-free shops.
2001 – Fleadh Ceoil celebrated its 50th anniversary as musicians throughout the county battled for their place in the provincial final in Tipperary.
