On Friday 24 May 2024 Cuimhneamh an Chláir will hold a public event in Kilfenora Community Hall, exploring the rich heritage of traditional farming stories in our archive and examining what lessons they have for us today for care of the environment and biodiversity.
A spokesperson for Cuimhneamh an Chláir said: “We’ll hear about Burren farming, hay-making versus silage-making, seed-saving, what animals to let graze your orchard, how hares play, what plants will heal broken bones, and much more.
We’ll bring you stories recorded with farmers over the last 15 years in Clare. But we want you to bring your own stories too. Tell us about the mixed farms of your childhood, what grew around your home, what wild plants you knew, what has disappeared and what is still there. We know that older farmers today carry a wealth of knowledge about the interdependence of plants, animals, wildlife and humans. Please share it with us.”
The event is free and all are welcome.
Cuimhneamh an Chláir / Clare Memories is an independent, voluntary charity, which digitally records, archives and shares the oral heritage of Co. Clare, through interviews with the county’s older citizens in its diverse communities.
This event is kindly supported by The Heritage Council and Clare Libraries.
