25th Tour de Munster Celebrates Milestone Finish

The 25th edition of the Tour de Munster charity cycle wrapped up in thrilling fashion on Sunday, August 10th, as cyclists powered up Cork City’s iconic St. Patrick’s Hill, cheered on by enthusiastic supporters lining the route.

The four-day, 600-kilometre journey spanned all six counties of Munster, raising vital funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).

The Tour kicked off on Thursday, August 7th, from Cork’s historic English Market, with the route taking riders through Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare, and Kerry. A 130 amateur cyclists took part in the challenge, joined once again by cycling legend Sean Kelly, a long-time supporter who has been involved with the Tour for nearly 20 years.

This year’s Tour was particularly special, marking a major milestone of 25 years on the road. Since its beginning in 2001, the Tour de Munster has raised over €5 million for the Munster branches of DSI, driving meaningful and lasting improvements for children and adults with Down syndrome throughout the province.

Every euro raised through the Tour directly supports essential services offered by DSI’s Munster branches. These services include occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, employment support, and other critical resources that empower individuals with Down syndrome and enrich the lives of their families.

Along the way, cyclists had the opportunity to meet members of the DSI Munster community, encounters that underscored the real-life impact of their efforts. These personal connections brought home the importance of the Tour’s mission and served as a moving reminder of the difference their support makes.

Founder of the Tour de Munster, Paul Sheridan, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, at the top of Patrick’s Hill: “Crossing the finish line of the 25th Tour de Munster is a moment filled with deep emotion and heartfelt gratitude. What started as a simple idea has grown into something truly extraordinary – a united community driven by a shared purpose.”

Sheridan added: “Over the past 25 years, we’ve not only raised essential funds, but also fostered hope, awareness, and a deep sense of solidarity for those who need it most. I’m incredibly grateful to every rider, volunteer, supporter, and family member who has been part of this journey, and of the lasting impact we’ve created together.”
