Following the resounding success of their sell-out production of the musical ‘In the Heights’ last November, Muse Productions are returning to the drama genre with the award-winning play, ‘The Crucible’, which will be staged at the Hope Cafe, Shannon from 24th to 26th October 2019.
This is the first time Muse will stage a production at this new community hub in Smithstown, where acts such as Luka Bloom and David Hope have previously performed.
Written by renowned playwright Arthur Miller, ‘The Crucible’ takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during the 1692 Salem witch trials. This was a time when paranoia, hysteria, and deceit gripped the Puritan towns of New England. Miller captured the events in a riveting story that is now considered a modern classic in the theater. He wrote it during the “Red Scare” of the 1950s and used the Salem witch trials as a metaphor for the “witch hunts” of communists in America. ‘The Crucible’ has twice been adapted for the screen. The first film was released in 1957, and the second in 1996, starring Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Rehearsals are already well underway, under the supervision of Director Clare McNelis. To stage this exciting production, Muse have put together a large cast of over 15 people, ranging from new young acting talent to more mature members of the group. In addition to experienced actors such as Gary Keane, Feidhlim Hillary, Martin McNelis, Noel Murphy, Cliodhna McNelis, Eoin Sheedy and Edel McFadden, Muse are delighted to welcome a number new faces, including, amongst others, Julita Fox, Olivia Parkinson, Dara O’Callaghan and many others.
