Competitions have begun and the crowds continue to rise at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Inis 2016.
Forty nine new All-Ireland champions were crowned on day six of the Fleadh, five of those were from Co Clare. Michael Moroney from Scattery Island was one of those as he finished first in the 12-15 concertina competition. His fellow parishioner Colm Browne had to settle for second place in the 15-18 equivalent.
Dearbhla Creaven was another Clare musician who tasted All-Ireland glory. Representing Craobh na Coradh she was deemed number one in the Irish Harp Slow 12-15 category. Two national titles are making their way to Corofin too with Inis Óg the top U12 Céilí Band and Music Group.
Tulla’s Cnoc na Gaoithe won the Ladies Full Set 12-15. In the 15-18 mixed set St John’s HFL finished in second place as did Miltown in the U18 mixed set.
Lissycasey’s James Kelly finished second in the 12-15 flute competition and he was followed by Tulla’s Stephen Kennedy. Seán Doherty of Craobh na hInse was third in the 15-18 accompaniment so too was Tadhg Ó Laoire of Kilnamona in U9 Comhrá Gaeilge, the 11-13 equivalent saw Seoda Ní Chaoimh, CCÉ, Craobh na Coradh finish third in the country.
Away from the competitions, Siobhán Peoples was the featured artist of the Fidil Beo Series, Glór hosted the CCÉ Overseas Concert while the Kilfenora Céilí Band teamed up with Sean Keane for a concert from the Shannon Aerodome. Jackie Daly, Matt Crantich and Niamh Ní Charra teamed up for Sliabh Luachra at Dánlann an Chláir.
