O’Briensbridge Community Group are commemorating the 1916 Rising by opening a memorial garden dedicated to East Clare patriot Nan Hogan.
This Saturday will see the official opening of the Heritage Garden named in honour of Cratloe born Nan Hogan who led the East Clare Cumann na mBan Brigade and died at the age of twenty five due to the effects of hunger strike and in memory of those who fought and died during the 1916 Rising.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1916 period costume to mark the occasion. Music and refreshments will be provided after the opening in Ryan Darbys Bar.
Sinn Féin Cllr Mike McKee will be the main speaker on Saturday with the opening commencing at 3pm. The event is part of Heritage Week.
Chairperson of O’Briensbridge Community Group Margaret O’Connor said “As we celebrate and commemorate the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, it is important that we are mindful of those who played a pivotal role in this momentous event and we remember with pride those men and women who sacrificed their lives for Irish freedom”.
