There was heartbreak for the McCarthy family from Inagh as they came agonizingly close to winning the fourth series of Ireland’s Fittest Family.
In a pulsating ‘finale event’, the Cummins’ from Tipperary shaded past the McCarthys to scoop the title and the €15,000 cash prize. Finishing second in the entire country is an achievement in itself and one that the Clare clan is quite happy about.
On Sunday’s final of the RTÉ series the McCarthys had to claw their way back as David finished third in the three families competing in the ‘hanging tough challenge’. Their comeback began in the ‘arena challenge’ where they finished in second place and they claimed top spot in the trailer pull defeating the Ryans time of 00:56 thus sending the Donegal family out of the competition.
Despite a strong start from sixteen year old Aidan in the ‘finale event’ the McCarthys fell just short at the final ramp.
Throughout the competition Patricia, Jason, David and Aidan have performed superbly receiving praise from viewers all over the country. Their mentor Stephen Hunt was extremely proud of their efforts as was all of Co Clare. They were the first family from the Banner County to participate in the show and have certainly left an impression.
Absolutely gutted for the McCarthys but ye did Co.Clare proud ???? #irelandsfittestfamily

Gutted for the McCarthys. Patsy was a hero. Fair play to them for finishing it. Many would have left it. #irelandsfittestfamily
