Joy, Drama and Mystery with the Irish Chamber Orchestra

Thomas Zehetmair and Irish Chamber Orchestra close out their journey with Schubert at RIAM, Dublin and UCH, Limerick on the 13 and 14 June respectively with one of his most popular works.

Trace the path of Schubert’s enigmatic Unfinished Symphony, brimming with gorgeous melodies. Explore all the drama and emotion of a bigger work packed into these two breath-taking movements.  Be amazed at why Schubert did not continue his work which was so far advanced and where he found a truly individual symphonic voice.

With just an outline sketch for an unfinished Scherzo, Thomas Zehetmair has re-imagined and completed the final movement, given his own familiarity with Schubert’s music, bringing this extraordinary work to life.  Enjoy this version which “is certainly the best of around a thousand or more ideas.  It is the result of about a year of effort, errors, and some sleepless nights” said Zehetmair.

Mozart’s music is simple, graceful, and full of feeling. Relish his legendary 2nd Horn Concerto, performed by ICO’s Principal Horn, Stephen Nicholls. It will delight with its gaiety, its light lyricism enriched by the warm vibe of Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Beethoven’s turbulent and dramatic Coriolan Overture sets the pace for another compelling concert. Follow a masterful depiction of a Roman leader’s transition from brutality to tenderness. Feel the music as it moves from sensuousness to menacing, a visceral cosmic struggle that fades finally, to oblivion.

Enjoy Beethoven’s mastery of form, Schubert’s unrivalled ability to build melodies and Mozart’s magical musical intricacies in this latest adventure with Thomas Zehetmair and Irish Chamber Orchestra at the Whyte Recital Hall, RIAM, Dublin and University Concert Hall, Dublin on the 13 and 14 June respectively.

Funded by The Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, ICO is based at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. www.irishchamberorchestra.com.
