Trumpet sounds for Irish Chamber Orchestra

Katherine Hunka directs Irish Chamber Orchestra in a colourful programme where composers wear the hearts of their homelands on their sleeve.

Tine Thing Helseth from Norway, one of our generation’s greatest trumpeters for a terrific showcase at University Concert Hall, Limerick and the Whyte Recital Hall, Dublin on Thursday and Friday 9th and 10th May.

Katherine and ICO transport audiences across the Irish Sea performing Elgar’s Introduction & Allegro, a reflection of a Welsh holiday which captivates with its ravishing and richly textured melody. Enjoy the elegance, power, and sheer beauty as captured by ICO.

Tine Thing Helseth will enthral audiences with Neruda’s virtuosic mastery in his Trumpet Concerto. From the Czech Republic to her homeland, Helseth shows us the splendour of Norway in snapshot songs by Grieg that are full of fun and close to her heart.

ICO sweeps us onwards to Poland and the fantastic sounds of Grazyna Bacewicz. With verve and imagination, they will tease audiences with her lively Sinfionetta for Strings. Crossing continents for Summer in Buenos Aires, audiences will be seduced by an evocative and sensual medley of tangos by Piazzolla, which are Helseth’s guilty pleasure and much loved by ICO.

Tine Thing Helseth has championed the trumpet repertoire amongst audiences on all six continents, earning high praise for her soulful, lyrical sound and collaborative approach to music-making. An artist who challenges the boundaries of genre with an intensely creative, open-minded philosophy, Tine’s ever-expanding repertoire ranges from the classical period to contemporary works and new commissions. Tine will excite and enthral audiences capturing hearts in Limerick and Dublin on 9 and 10 May.

As Ireland’s national chamber orchestra, we are lucky to call the University of Limerick home. We are funded by The Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
