The independent, voluntary charity, which digitally records, archives and shares the oral heritage of Co. Clare will host an Oral History Showcase in Ennis this Saturday.
Cuimhneamh an Chláir runs an annual nationwide Oral history Mentoring Programme for Heritage and Community groups who wish to add an oral history dimension to their work.
The programme runs over 2 months, with participants coming to Ennis for 3 days training and collecting stories within their own communities. They also learn how to edit and present their oral history interviews.
Hear their stories, collected around the country from Tallaght to the Galtees, at a celebratory event on Saturday 29 June in the Old Ground Hotel, Ennis.
“So far we have worked with groups from Kerry to Dublin, from Meath to Galway and from Cork to Westmeath. On Saturday you’ll hear stories about Shamrock Rovers Fans club, the railwaymen of Tullamore, the making of Limerick Lace, sheep herding on the Galtees and more.” says Project Manager, Paula Carroll
“Dr Maura Cronin, founder of the Oral History Centre at Mary Immaculate College / UL will be present on Saturday and will give a response to the work presented by this new crop of oral historians. The event is free and all are welcome.” she concluded.
Refreshments served at 1.30pm.
