Clare is to welcome more refugees to the county at the end of January.
Nine families will be relocated to Ennistymon in 2017 in line with the Government’s commitment under the EU Relocation Programme.
In June 2016, the first group of families with a total of forty seven individuals arrived in the county. They have since taken up residence in Shannon and Sixmilebridge.
The Irish Government originally agreed to the resettlement of 520 refugees in Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Galway and Mayo. The initial intake of refugees arrived in Ireland in mid-2015.
Ennistymon will welcome forty five new residents at the end of January as part of the resettlement. The timing of their arrival will be dictated by the Department of Justice and Equality. An interagency group will provide support services to the Syrian families. Health, education and language support services will be provided by the HSE, Department of Justice and Equality, Department of Social Protection, Clare County Council, TUSLA and local agencies.
