Cars seized, one arrested, at Garda checkpoint near Ennis

Four uninsured vehicles were seized and one person was arrested on suspicion of drug driving at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ennis on Thursday evening.

Gardaí based at Ennis, along with members of Clare Roads Policing Unit, conducted the checkpoint in an effort to detect uninsured drivers.

A total of four vehicles were found to be uninsured and were seized at the scene.

The operation also resulted in one person being arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs while a number of other offences were also detected.

The motorists involved now face court appearances.

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Ennis stopped a car earlier in the week as the occupants were suspected of being involved in a number of thefts from shops in the town. The driver was found to be uninsured, while the car had no tax or NCT, and the tyres were well below the limits.

The car was seized, and the driver will appear in court for the traffic and theft offences.
