Gardaí across Clare are seeking the public’s assistance as they investigate a number of incidents which occurred over the past week.
Crime Prevention Officer for Clare, Sergeant Catriona Holohan first outlined the circumstances of a serious and frightening incident involving an older gentleman in Ennis town centre on Friday.
“Ennis Gardaí are investigating an incident where a sum of money was taken from an older man in his 70’s at the Height in Ennis last Friday, 14th June at 11am. The injured party described the suspect as male and wearing a black hooded jacket, black trousers and blue runners. This is a devastating incident for this man and Gardaí are currently viewing CCTV. We are appealing to anyone that may have seen a male matching this description at any time in Ennis town last Friday to contact Ennis Garda Station. It is really important that we identify this perpetrator and Ennis Gardaí would appeal to any witnesses to please come forward.
Meanwhile, Gardaí at Ennis Garda Station are investigating a burglary that occurred in the Ballyduff area of Barefield on Wednesday, 12th June between 4pm and 9pm. The perpetrator gained entry to the home by damaging a front window. Gardaí are appealing to anyone that may have seen a person or a vehicle in the Ballyduff area, that may have information, CCTV or dash-cam footage to please contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100.
Ennis Gardaí are also investigating an attempted burglary at the Scout Hall on Station Road, Ennis. The perpetrator attempted to gain access to the Scout Hall via the front door, causing damage to the door. This incident took place on Sunday, 16th June at 2.16pm. Garda are appealing to anyone that may have been walking or driving on Station Road and may have seen a person in around the Scout Hall, to please contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100.
Criminal Damage Incidents
- Gardaí in Ennis are investigating damage to a red Kubota mini digger that was on a site on Main Street in Clarecastle. The windows of this mini digger were significantly damaged before Wednesday evening, 12th June at 9.30pm.
- Ennistymon Gardaí are investigating criminal damage to a residential property in Dough, Lahinch. This incident occurred just after midnight on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Gardaí are appealing to anyone that was travelling on the Lahinch to Ennistymon Road just after midnight on Wednesday night to contact Ennistymon Garda Station if they have Dash-cam footage or if they observed a vehicle in this area.
- Shannon Gardaí are currently investigating criminal damage to a residential property in the Cronan Lawn estate in Shannon on Sunday evening, 16th June at 9.23pm. Significant damage was caused to the front windows of this home. A male in his twenties was arrested shortly after the incident and was subsequently detained at Shannon Garda Station and charged to appear before the District Court today. Although there is an offender in custody charged in relation to this incident, Gardaí are still appealing to anyone that may have witnessed this incident or have information in relation to it, to please contact Shannon Garda Station on 061 365900 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
- Gardaí in Tulla are investigating damage that was caused to a parked vehicle on Thursday night, 13th June. This blue Ford Mondeo was parked up at 10pm on Main Street in Kilkishin, near the church. Approximately four hours later, just after 2am the vehicle was found damaged. The front window of this blue Ford Mondeo was smashed and both wing mirrors were broken. Gardaí in Tulla are appealing to anyone that may have any information in relation to this crime, to contact Tulla Garda Station on 065 6835103.
Stolen Vehicles
- Shannon Gardaí are investing the unauthorised taking of two vehicles from the EI Electronics car-park in the Shannon Industrial Estate last Tuesday, 11th June. Both vehicles were taken between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. The stolen vehicles were a white Toyota Aqua Hatchback and a green Toyota Aqua Hatchback. These vehicles were taken from the car-park at a time when there would have been employees walking to their own vehicles. Thefts
- Gardaí in Kilrush are investigating the theft of an Ifor Williams Trailer stolen from Munnia in the Burren between Wednesday night at 11.30pm and a few hours later at 1.30am in the early hours of Thursday morning. The trailer was a 12×6 double axel cow box, silver in colour with black mud flaps. It has (O’Haire Trailer’s) stickers on it.

- Gardaí in Ennis are investigating the theft of a Takeuchi rock breaker from a residential property in Quin over the weekend. This rock breaker was taken from a property on Green Road in Quin between Friday evening at 5pm and Monday morning at 8pm.
- Tulla Gardaí are continuing to investigate the theft of a trailer and ride on lawnmower from the O Reilly Park estate at 2.30am on Sunday, 9th June 2024. The trailer is described as an 8 by 5 trailer and it was galvanised. The ride on lawnmower is a Craftsman mower. A dark saloon type vehicle was observed on CCTV on the Main Street in Tulla travelling in the direction of the Gort Road in Tulla. Gardaí in Tulla are appealing to anyone that may have seen this vehicle towing a trailer with a ride on lawnmower or to anyone that may have parked their vehicle on the Main Street in Tulla and have dash-cam footage in their vehicle, to please contact Tulla Garda Station on
