Gardaí have confirmed that the woman seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare on Friday night, has passed away in hospital.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following the collision which occurred on the R458 at Rathfolan on Friday 27th March 2026.
Gardaí, National Ambulance Service paramedics and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon station responded to the single vehicle road traffic collision which occurred shortly before 10:50pm.
The female driver was rushed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries. She was pronounced deceased yesterday evening, Tuesday 31st March 2026.
Gardaí have confirmed that the Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
A female passenger (aged in her 70s) was also conveyed to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators before the road was reopened shortly after 5.00am on Saturday.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the R458, near Rathfollan, Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare on Friday 27th March 2026 between 10:30pm and 11:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
