Annual Ennis Daffodil Day to be launched

Ennis Daffodil Day Committee will launch their annual event Daffodil Day tomorrow, March 6th at 8pm.

Daffodil Day takes place on March 24th 2017 and plays a significant role in supporting the Irish Cancer Society’s vital services for cancer patients and their families in Ennis and nationwide, as well as funding collaborative cancer research to find better ways of diagnosing and treating cancer.

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Daffodil Day and the Irish Cancer Society needs to raise over €3m to provide care, information and support to people affected by cancer.

The local Daffodil Day committee are appealing to the public to volunteer to sell daffodils on March 24th and to donate to support people affected by cancer.

Speakers include:

*Mark Mellett, Head of Fundraising, Irish Cancer Society

*Hilary Gough, Irish Cancer Society Night Nurse in Clare. Hilary has been a Night Nurse for 20 years and cares for cancer patients at the end of their life in their own home. 40 cancer patients in Clare received 196 nights of care in 2016.

*Patrick Morrissey, Volunteer Driver, will speak about his role. The Volunteer Driver Service is a free transport service which brings cancer patients to their chemotherapy appointments. 322 journeys were facilitated for 26 patients from Clare who used the Volunteer Driver Service.
