The campaign to retain responsibility for Clare Bus in the county has stepped up a gear with the operators establishing a petition which they hope the public will support.
It emerged this week that the National Transport Authority wants transfer the responsibility for Clare’s rural transport service to County Limerick.
Described as a lifeline for those living in rural parts of Clare, the service provides a dedicated service that allows the public access to larger towns and cities where they can carry out essential business.
It’s now feared however that relocating the coordination of the service in Clare to Limerick will result in a downgrading of the service.
In a message to Clare Herald readers, the operators of the service in Clare said: “You may not be a user of Clare Bus right now, but this could change due to mobility, health or age. You might have a relative, friend or neighbour, who is a passenger of ours. The service is under threat.”
“Please support us to reverse the decision to move office, admin and dispatch to West Limerick. Keep the whole of Clare Bus IN Clare. It’s a community thing….”
