Carey anxious for Cree road to be repaired

Main St in Cree.

Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey is anxious to see improvement works carried out to the Main Street in the West Clare village of Cree.

At a meeting with members of the council executive, Deputy Carey said it was important that work was carried out to address the atrocious condition of the R483 as it detracted from a lovely village. He added that the repairs should be undertaken as soon as possible because the road surface would deteriorate even further throughout the winter months.

In a written reply, senior transportation engineer Tom Tiernan said that while the council was aware of the situation in Cree, they hadn’t identified a means of funding the necessary work at the moment.

“There are structural deficiencies of some significance in the section of the road and these will be quite costly to overcome. Roads funding in general is so depleted that in most circumstances it is more important to utilise funding on longer sections where the benefit will be greater and the asset will be protected from future inevitable deterioration.

“However, we are anxious to find a means of resolving the situation in Cree and we hope to be able to identify an appropriate funding strategy in the not too distant future,” Mr Tiernan concluded.
