Clare County Library branches in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush, Kilkee, Sixmilebridge, Scariff and Killaloe will host a series of events marking Positive Ageing Week 2019 from Monday 30 September to Friday 4 October.
Positive Ageing Week (PAW), which is an Age Action Ireland initiative, focuses on community-based events organised by groups and individuals throughout Ireland.
De Valera Library Ennis will host a ‘Tea, Talk & Technology’ event on Wednesday 25 September from 11.00am to midday to mark Positive Ageing Week. There will be talks about some of the free services the library has to offer. Along with borrowing books from any of Ireland’s public libraries, library staff will cover some of the lesser known services found through the library too like genealogy resources, accessing emagazines, ebooks and eaudio books, online training and language learning. Kilkee Library will host a free ‘Old Photos of West Clare Exhibition’ and coffee morning on Friday 4 October. The exhibition will include a slide show of the Murphy Hynes Collection, as well as books and magazines on Kilkee and West Clare. For further information contact Kilkee Library on 065-9056034.
Killaloe Library also will be hosting events during Positive Ageing Week, including a Craft Club on Tuesday 1 October at 11.00am and the new Scrabble Club on Wednesday 02 October at 10.30 am. Further information on the weekly events is available from 061-376062.
Kilrush Library is hosting numerous free events, including ‘Chair Yoga’ with Trea Heapes on Tuesday 1st October at 11.00am, a Knitting & Crochet group meeting on Wednesday 2 October at 6.00pm, and a Film Club screening of ‘Victoria & Abdul’ on Friday 4 October at 6.00pm.  For further information, contact Kilrush Library at 065 9051504.
Scariff Public Library will host East Clare Community Choir, guest soloists and musicians for an evening of Music and Song from 7.00pm to 8.00pm on Friday, 4 October.  For more information, contact Scariff Library on 061 922893.
Other events being held in Scariff during Positive Ageing Week include the Scrabble club meeting on Monday 30 September, from 10.00am to 1.00pm. There will also be an Internet and Email session for Beginners on Wednesday 2nd October 11.00am to midday. The free drop-in classes take place each week for one hour and are run by library staff. There will also be a free Introduction to Online Resources such as Mango Languages, Ebooks, online magazines, Borrowbox and Universal Class, on Wednesday between 11.00am and midday. ‘A Circle of Stitches’, the free weekly knitting and crochet group, meets each Wednesday from 10.00am to 1.30pm.
Shannon Library will host a free Chair Yoga class with yoga teacher Julie Hyde on Tuesday, 1 October, at 11.00 am. Supported by Healthy Ireland and aimed specifically for adults, Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting on a chair or standing on the ground while using the chair for support and can keep the body supple and healthy, reduce stress and improve mental health.
