The Annual General Meeting of Clare Macra na Feirme took place recently in Ennis when the officers for the next year were confirmed.
Clare Macra were honoured to be joined by the newly elected President of Macra na Feirme, James Healy, the Chief Executive Officer of Macra, Denis Duggan and Vice President, Tom O’Donoghue. This was a great show of support to the county, who have increased membership and activity levels in the last few years.
The new committee elected for the 2017-2018 period were: President (honorary); Michael Carey, Chairperson; Donna Ahern, Treasurer; Patrick McNamara, PRO; Cillian Griffey, Competitions Chairperson; Caitríona Power, Sports Chairperson; Sean O’Connor, Rural youth officer; Dermot Hegarty, YFDG Chair; Liam Hanrahan, YFDG Secretary; Diarmuid O’Connell.
President of Macra na Feirme, James Healy said that he would like to ‘thank the clubs in Clare for their courtesy over the course of the election campaign. I look forward to working closely with members in Clare to continue to build the organisation. Well done to the clubs for their participation in the competitions throughout the year and attendance at events.’
Macra na Feirme is an organisation for young people between the ages of 17 and 35 who are interested in meeting new people and trying new things like sports, travel, drama or debating. Macra has competitions to suit everyone and you don’t need to be an expert to take part.
You will meet young people from all over the country and can get involved in a wide variety of areas including agriculture, sport, travel, public speaking, performing arts and community involvement. You can also join just to have a bit of fun and make new friends.
PRO of Clare Macra na Feirme, Cillian Griffey stated that ‘Macra has proven itself to be an organisation that brings people together and promotes personal development through sports, drama, debating and so many other strands of activity. The organisation is not just for farmers. More and more young people not from farming backgrounds are joining because they see the benefits and many attractions of joining.’
