58 sport facilities and projects in Clare are set to receive funding of almost €1.5m under the 2017 Sport Capital Programme.
The announcement of €1,497,000 will be made this morning by Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin TD.
The funding will assist with constructing and upgrading of outdoor facility spaces, training facilities, all weather pitches and gyms, while also providing much needed sport and safety equipment to clubs and organisations all over Clare.
Welcoming the news, Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market & Data Protection Pat Breen said: “Sport and activity is not just essential for our physical health but its benefits to our mental well being is also well documented. Furthermore group sports and activities also allow people to come together and provide a social outlet for communities.”
“I would like to congratulate all the clubs who worked so hard to secure funding this year and would encourage others who are planning development projects to avail of this funding in the future,” said Minister Breen.
Clare Independent TD Dr Michael Harty TD has also congratulated all the Clare organisations who have been successful in receiving funding under this year’s Sports Capital Programme.
“The Sports Capital Programme is really worthwhile aiming as it does to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country. It is so important in rural Ireland in assisting voluntary and community organisations to develop high quality, safe, well-designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations and to provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation,” Dr. Harty said.
