Construction to begin on Shannon Community Care Centre

Clarecare will begin construction on a new multi-million Community Care Centre in Shannon this November, marking a major milestone in enhancing community services across County Clare.

Funded by Clarecare, alongside EI Electronics, JP McManus Pro-Am 2022, the Sunflower Charitable Foundation, and the Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, the project represents a significant investment in the region.

The new facility will be located at Tullyvarraga, adjacent to Shannon Garda Station, with completion expected by March 2027. Once operational, the state-of-the-art Centre will provide a comprehensive range of services, including:

– Addiction Treatment Services

– Care of the Older Person Services – including Home Support, a Day Centre for the Over 65s, and Social Work for Older Persons

– Family Support Services

The Centre will also feature a dedicated community space and a Thrift Shop, creating a welcoming and inclusive hub for the people of Shannon and its surrounding areas.

Clarecare acquired the site for the new Centre in 2016, with planning permission secured earlier this year. Clare-based construction firm Lymar Contracts has been awarded the building contract, and works will commence in the coming weeks.

Bill Twomey, Chairperson of Clarecare’s Board of Directors, welcomed the news: “We are delighted to announce that construction on our new Shannon Community Care Centre will begin in late November 2025. This new Centre represents a major step forward in our mission to provide accessible, high-quality care and support to individuals and families in Shannon and the wider County Clare area.

We are deeply grateful to our funding partners and look forward to working with them to bring this vital project to life.”

Clarecare currently leases office space in Shannon Town Business Centre and welcomes the transition to a purpose-built, permanent facility that will enhance its ability to serve the Shannon community.

The organisation employs over 400 staff and delivers services in partnership with the HSE, TUSLA, the Department of Social Protection, and other key stakeholders.

Founded in 1968, Clarecare is the largest Clare-based, not-for-profit social enterprise agency, providing a wide range of support services to individuals and families throughout County Clare. Headquartered in Ennis, Clarecare also operates from local offices in Bushypark, Kilrush, Killaloe, and Ennistymon.
