US President Donald Trump’s Co Clare golf course has been granted permission to proceed with works to prevent further coastal erosion.
Clare County Council has granted permission to Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland for the development of coastal erosion management works at, and adjacent to, Carrowmore Dunes, White Strand, Doughmore Bay and Trump International Golf Links and Hotel, Doonbeg, Co. Clare.
The decision, which is subject to 9 conditions, comes despite objections from a number of groups.
As per the provisions of the planning acts, any decision made may be subject to a First or Third Party appeal to An Bord Pleanála within 4 weeks of the decision date.
Earlier this year, during a visit to Doonbeg, Eric Trump held a series of meetings that included discussions on the future of the facility and the ongoing planning process surrounding proposed coastal protection works at the property.
Mr Trump said at the time that he expected there to be a ‘positive result’ to the company’s planning application to construct erosion defences to protect the golf course from further destruction after the storms of 2014 and 2015 caused extensive.
Details of the planning application (planning reference number p16/1012) and the Planning Authority’s decision will be made available on the Clare County Council website, www.clarecoco.ie, from 9.00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, 22 December 2017).
