Construction expected to begin at Cappahard roundabout in October

cappahardConstructed is expected to begin in early October at the proposed development of a roundabout at the junction of the R352 Tulla Road with Oakleigh Wood and Cappahard.

Clare County Council confirmed that the development has proceeded to tender stage. The roundabout will be 38 metres in diameter and will feature a circulating lane for cyclists. The construction project will include some realignment of Cappahard Road as well as drainage works, signing and lining. Two new zebra crossings also will be provided on the Tulla Road, one at each side of the roundabout, with uncontrolled crossings on the other two arms.

According to the local authority the completed roundabout will facilitate vehicular access in and out of Cappahard and Oakleigh Wood residential areas adjacent to the R352 Tulla Road.

The closing date for receipt of completed tenders is 2 September 2016.

There has been several crashes at the site in recent years which has an average daily traffic usage of 15,000 vehicles. News of the upcoming development have been welcomed by residents in the area and Ennis Cllr Johnny Flynn who said “I’m glad to have worked with residents over the last decade to get half a million euro’s worth of funding from Government to deal with serious traffic and flooding problems experienced by residents and other road users at Cappahard/Oakleigh woods entrances on Tulla Road”.
