For the first time, Quest adventure series will take place on the banks of Lough Derg on Saturday 14th September 2019.
Quest representatives and members of Lough Derg Marketing Group along with other local business representatives were on the banks of Lough Derg today to mark 12 weeks to the event.
This exciting, brand-new event, Quest Lough Derg, will see participants start and finish their event in Ballina and run, cycle and kayak their way around Lough Derg taking in locations like Tountinne, Garrykennedy, Ballycuggaran and Moylussa.
There are three routes to choose from for participants, the 22km ‘Challenge’ route, the 57km ‘Sport’ route and the 69km ‘Expert’ route. There’s a route to suit all levels of ability – by way of a guide for those new to the sport, the level of fitness required to compete in the ‘Challenge’ is similar required to run a 10km race.
Elite Event Management are working with support from Clare County Council, Tipperary County Council and Lough Derg Marketing Group to bring this high-profile event to the area.
Quest Adventure Series Director, Oliver Kirwan is already looking forward to this new event, he said “We are on the countdown now to the first ever Quest Lough Derg. The event is proving really popular with adventure racers already with nearly 1000 participants signed up already.
“The great thing about these events is that they’re really accessible and we would encourage local people to take a look and sign up for a route that suits their abilities – there’s something for everyone! We’ve had great support from our local partners already and we know the community will be out to support everyone on the day too.”
Joe MacGrath, Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council and Chairman of Lough Derg Marketing Group said, “We are delighted that Quest is coming to Lough Derg, particularly at a time of year when the tourist season is drawing to a close. With an estimated 1500 adventure racers expected to attend, this event will boost the Lough Derg economy by an estimated €280,000+.
These events have a great reputation around the country and we look forward to welcoming adventure racers from around Ireland and abroad to experience all that Lough Derg has to offer for outdoor enthusiasts, foodies and culture seekers alike. We look forward to working with the team at Quest to promote and support this event.”
Quest Adventure series has five Irish events, Quest Kenmare (March), Quest Glendalough (April), Quest 12/24 – Sneem & South Kerry (31st August), Quest Lough Derg (14th September) and Quest Killarney (12th October).
