Update: 6 people appear in court after Limerick searches

Five have appeared before Limerick District Court in relation to Money Laundering offences.

Two were charged in relation to Money Laundering and released on station bail to appear before court at a later date.

One man has been charged in relation to possession of controlled drugs and he remains in custody and will appear before Limerick District Court.

Two remain detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and investigations ongoing.

One man charged before Limerick District Court today in relation breaches of the Control of Horses Act, 1996.

One man charged for possession of offensive weapons and released on station bail to appear before court at a later date.

During a number of follow up searches later today seven further persons were arrested:

One man was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in relation to the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977/84. One woman and one man were arrested in respect of Money Laundering offences and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

 

Three men were arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977/84 and have been charged and released on station bail to appear before court at a later date.

One man has been charged in relation to the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977/84 and remains in Garda custody and will appear before Limerick District Court tomorrow morning, Wednesday 8th September, 2021 at 10.30a.m.

All prisoners are detained in Henry Street and Roxboro Road Garda stations.

Gardaí have arrested a total of 12 people following a number of searches in Limerick early today.

As part of ‘Operation Coronation’, in excess of 300 personnel carried out a total of 65 searches.

The included gardaí from the Limerick Garda Division who were supported by the Criminal Assets Bureau, Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, the Emergency Response Unit, the Armed Response Unit, Regional Dog Unit, Air Support Unit, members from the Irish Defence Forces and Revenue and Customs.

The searches took places at dwellings, businesses and on land near the outskirts of Limerick City.

During the course of the searches the following items were seized: 

· Cash to the approximate value of €145,000.00 has been seized 

· Five designer watches 

· Three vehicles were seized – A BMW, a VW Tiguan and a Range Rover. 

· 10 horses which includes a Stallion valued in excess of €50,000.00 

· Assorted documentation which will be examined by Criminal Assets Bureau personnel. 

· Cannabis Herb to the approximate value of €8,000

· One cocaine press, weighing scales, vacuum packing machine and a quantity of power substance seized. 

· One horse box valued approximately €10,000

· Cocaine to the value of €2,000

· And 8 Financial institution accounts have been frozen with an approximate value of €421,000

Of the 12 arrests made so far today, 7 are men and 5 are women.

Eight persons (5 women, 3 men) have been arrested for suspected money laundering offences, two persons have been arrested for suspected drug offences, one man was arrested in connection with breaches of the Control of Horses Act, 1996 and one man was arrested in connection with the possession of an offensive weapon.

A number of these persons have/will appear before Limerick District Court today, 7th September 2021.

The operation remains ongoing. Further updates will be issued in due course.
