Garda renew appeal following Darragh car thefts

Tuesday, August 26th, 12.00pm – GardaĆ­ have renewed their appeal for information after a total of six vehicles were stolen from a car dealership in Clare last week.

The break-in and theft took places at Optimum Autos in Darragh at around 1.30am on Friday August 22nd.

GardaĆ­ have confirmed that three of the sic vehicles have been recovered by GardaĆ­, however the following three cars remain outstanding:

151 Light Blue VW Golf – 2018 White Toyota CHR – 2014 White VW Golf

A Garda spokesperson said: ā€œAny road users with dash cam footage who were travelling on the N68 between 1am and 5am last Friday morning, please make this footage available to Ennis GardaĆ­ on 0656848100.

ā€œWe would also like to remind your listeners that these cars could be offered for sale over the next few weeks. If you are offered these for sale please contact your local Garda station or Ennis GardaĆ­, or they could be parked up in your local carpark or housing estate and we are again asking the public to be vigilant for any of these vehicles to your local garda station.

Dozens of sets of car keys scattered on the ground at the scene of the theft in Darragh

GardaĆ­ are investigating the theft of six vehicles from a garage in the county overnight.

The incident took place at Optimum Autos in Darragh on the main N68 Ennis to Kilrush road in the early hours of the morning. GardaĆ­ have confirmed that six cars in all were stolen while one was later located abandoned on N18 dual-carriageway (southbound) near Cratloe.

GardaĆ­ attended the garage this morning while a technical examination was also carried out at the scene.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “GardaĆ­ received a report of a burglary at a commercial premises in Darragh, Co. Clare that occurred in the early hours of Friday, 22nd August 2025.

Six vehicles were reported as stolen. One of these vehicles has since been recovered and seized by GardaĆ­. A technical examination of the scene has since been conducted by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.ā€

GardaĆ­ have confirmed the details of the stolen vehicles.

A blue 2014 Audio S3 (This vehicle type is understood to be quite rare in Ireland).

Light blue 151 WX reg Volkswagen Golf

White 2018 Toyota CHR

GardaĆ­ are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact them.

“Any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the N68 between 1:00am and 5:00am on Friday 22nd August 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaĆ­,ā€ the spokesperson added.

GardaĆ­ have also issued the following advice; ā€œGardaĆ­ are requesting members of the public to be vigilant for any vehicle matching those described above, which may be offered for sale, or which may be parked up in public carparks, housing estates, etc.

In a post on social media, the garage said: ā€œLast night, our garage Optimum Autos in Darragh, Co. Clare was broken into. Sadly, five cars were stolen. One of the vehicles, a black BMW 1 Series, was later found abandoned southbound near Cratloe.ā€

ā€œWe are urgently appealing to the public. If you were travelling on the route from Ennis to Limerick last night and have dash cam footage, please review it for any unusual activity. Any information, no matter how small, could help.ā€

GardaĆ­ say investigations are ongoing.
