Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a male discovered a beach in Co Clare earlier this month.
The body was found by a walker on Kilmacreehy Beach between Lahinch and Liscannor at around 11.00am on Friday June 7th. The beach is popular locally with walkers.
Gardaí responded to the scene and located a body near the high water mark close to a local pitch and putt club. High tide was at around 8.45am on the day and it’s believed the body was washed up with the tide.
The body was fully clothed and is believed to be that of a male in his 20s or 30s. It’s not known who the man is or where he entered the water but is understood to have been in the sea for between 24 and 48 hours.
Gardaí preserved the scene pending the arrival of Crime Scene Investigation officers who documented and photographed the area. The body was then recovered from the beach to the carpark of the pitch and putt club. Later, a hearse transported the remains to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.
Gardaí said at the time that they had no report of any missing person locally and were checking missing persons lists across the other Garda regions in an effort to identify the man.
A Garda spokesman also confirmed at the time: “At present, we are not treating the death as suspicious.”
Almost a fortnight later however, efforts to identify the body have been unsuccessful.
Gardaí have now asked for the public’s help to identify the body and have issued further information including a description of the clothing the man was wearing.

A Garda spokesman said: “It is believed that the person entered the water in the previous 24 to 48 hours. The body is of a young male believed to be of Asian background. He is 5’10”, with short tight dark hair, clean shaven and of slim build.”
“The man was found wearing a black puffa style jacket, black round neck T shirt with the word “Youthful” printed in red across the front, black knee long Adidas acrylic shorts, black ‘Spyder’ long tracksuit pants and black ‘Nike’ runners with a white sole,” the spokesman said.
Investigations are ongoing at Ennistymon Garda station and Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information that could lead to identifying this person to contact Ennistymon Garda Station on 065-707 2180 or The Garda Confidential line.
