Irish Open at Lahinch a huge success

It’s going to be great…. It certainly was. Well done all involved.

The organisers of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, along with Lahinch Golf Club Clare County Council, An Garda Síochána and other agencies involved, have been praised following the massive success of the event.

The north Clare town of Lahinch and surrounding countryside looked resplendent as images were beamed across the globe to over 500m people during the four day event.

While the European Tour golfing tournament lasted less than a week, it took months of hard work to prepare the town and the iconic championship course in Lahinch for the major event.

Almost 87,000 spectators attended to view a feast of golf while, for the first time in seven years, the last two days of the event were sold out, according to organisers.

The Garda traffic management plan has also been hailed a great success – Photos: Garda Western Region Facebook.

Spain’s Jon Rahm won the event for a second time following his round of 62 on Sunday. He finished on 16-under, two shots ahead of England’s Andy Sullivan and Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger and lifted the crystal trophy while pocketing over a million euro.

It’s now hoped that Lahinch will see a return of the Irish Open before long having proven that the historic club was more than capable of hosting a major event.

Clare County Council, An Garda Síochána, National Ambulance Service, Clare Civil Defence and many other agencies have also been praised for making the event such a success.
