Man arrested on suspicion of illegal hare hunting

One person was arrested during a joint An Garda Síohcána and National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) targeting illegal hare hunting.

During the ongoing operation Gardaí in north Clare stopped this vehicle yesterday following reports of suspicious behaviour.

A number of hunting dogs and a thermal imagining scope were found in the vehicle. The vehicle and scope were seized and a male arrested who will later appear in court.

Under Section 44 of the Wildlife Acts, it is an offence to enter any land for the purpose of hunting without the permission of the landowner.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Landowners and members of the public are asked to remain vigilant. If you see or suspect any illegal hunting or other illegal activity, please report it to your local Garda Station or the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).”
