Revenue officers have been granted a court order to detain €9,000 in cash after it was seized from a passenger at Shannon Airport yesterday.
The seizure is the second in a week at the airport in a week and the seventh there so far this year.
A Polish woman in her 20’s was stopped by Revenue officers on Monday before she could board her flight to Wroclaw in Poland.
Officers seized the cash in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation and were granted a three month detention order today at Kilrush District Court.
At Kilrush District Court today, officers were granted a three month detention order to facilitate further investigations.
The order allows for the cash to be held while an investigation into it’s origins are established.
Last week, officers stopped the man in his 30’s and seized €8,700. The Polish national was intercepted and questioned in an intelligence-led operation before he could board his flight to Krakow.
Officers seized the cash under proceeds of crime legislation and were granted a court order to keep the money pending completion of further investigations.
