Two units of the fire brigade responded to the call however on arrival, they were confronted by two teenagers and were refused access to the property. The youths are understood to be brothers and aged 15 and 17.

One of the youths produced an iron bar and threatened fire fighters however the weapon was taken from him.

The boy went back inside the house and returned with a kitchen knife and is alleged to have threatened fire crews again.

Gardaí were alerted and arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes.

One of the boys escaped through a rear window while the other was arrested at the scene. The second teenager was located and detained a short time later.

One was taken to Ennis Garda station where he was interviewed by officers before being released.

The other youth is still being held at Shannon garda station and is expected to appear in court in Limerick this afternoon.

Fire fighters later established that there was no fire and that the call was a malicious false alarm.
