In issuing a road safety message on social media this evening, GardaĆ said: ā€œIf you have taken illegal drugs, do not drive. If you were drinking last night, do not drive until it is safe to do so and you are not under the influence.

If you think the driver of a car is under the influence or drink or drugs, say something to them and do not travel with them. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. The message is still the same, never ever drive under the influence or drink or drugs.ā€

As part of a Garda Bank Holiday weekend road safety operation, members were out conducting checkpoints targeting intoxicated drivers, uninsured drivers and criminals using the road network.
