As part of World Diabetes Week celebrations, Diabetes Ireland will be kicking off events with its Diabetes Health & Wellbeing Exhibition taking place in the Strand Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick from 12 noon to 5:00 pm Sunday 10th November.
This free exhibition will provide an array of attractions for the public such as free diabetes health checks, blood pressure and HbA1c testing, weight & BMI checks, plus a range of patient education forums throughout the day.
With over 20 companies exhibiting, all of the latest medical technology will be on display to touch and feel, along with a broad range of healthy living stands and other diabetes related services and professionals in attendance to answer queries from attendees.
Ms Pauline Dunne, Diabetes Ireland said “this is the first time the exhibition will be held in Limerick. Normally, we see over 1500 attendees at this flagship event and I hope to see similar numbers this year. Those in attendance include people living with diabetes and their families and those at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. With so much diabetes expertise under one roof, it’s an event not to be missed”.
We have a range of expert speakers on the day. For parents we have Dr Orla Neylon, Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist from Limerick University Hospital and Ms Shirley Beattie, Paediatric Dietitian from Cork University Hospital speaking on how to maximise the use of technology to more effectively manage their child’s condition. For people with Type 2 diabetes, we are delighted to have Dr Maeve Durkan, Consultant Endocrinologist from Cork who will be speaking on the development of the condition as we get older and the impact it can have if we do not effectively manage it. We also have Dr Paul O’Dwyer the importance of oral health for people living with diabetes and Ms Sinead Powell on Food & Type 2 Diabetes.
Sharing insights on their experience of living with Type 1 diabetes, we have Eoghan Quinn, who undertook the France to Ireland Kitesurf Challenge in July speaking about the experience and his life with Type 1 diabetes plus psychologist Kate Gajewska who will be sharing her professional and personal experience of living daily with Type 1 diabetes. For children we also have Cody the Magician, who will be hosting his magic show on the day.
“This is a great opportunity for the local diabetes community and their families to come out and hear directly from the experts and I would urge everyone to avail of this great opportunity” Ms Dunne concluded.
