The 10-year-old boy, seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Shannon on Sunday, has passed away in hospital.
Dylan Coady-Coleman was gravely injured following the incident involving a van at Purcell Park in the town. The collision occurred at around 2.10pm.
Clare County Fire and Rescue Service personnel from Shannon responded to the scene with minutes after a passer-by called to their station to raise the alarm. Fire crews were hosting an open day at their base at the time just a few hundred metres from the scene.
The National Ambulance Service and Gardaí were also alerted while the HSE’s Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance was also tasked to the scene. AeroMed 01 was able to land in a nearby playing field. Dylan was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment but was later transferred to Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street for further specialist care.
However, Dylan’s mother Laura confirmed on Facebook this afternoon that Dylan had passed away at 11.12am today. The news comes just a day after Laura gave birth to a baby boy.
Meanwhile, the local community in Shannon has rallied around the Coleman and Coady families. A fundraising page, set up earlier this week, has already seen over €40,000 raised.
Gardaí at Shannon are continuing their investigation into the incident. A man arrested after the collision was questioned and released pending further investigations.
Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses of this collision to come forward.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were traveling in the Purcell Park area between 1:45 pm and 2:30 pm on Sunday afternoon are asked to provide this footage to Gardaí.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Shannon Garda Station at 061 365900, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
