Students and staff at Ennis Community College and Gaelcholáiste an Chláir are celebrating national recognition for their ongoing commitment to social innovation.
The 2025 Transition Year graduates were shortlisted for the Young Social Innovators Awards with their impactful project “A Second Chance at Christmas.”
The team has now received an invitation to take part in YSI Elevate in the coming academic year, a programme designed to help selected teams further develop their projects and expand their social impact.
In addition, the school was honoured with a YSI School of Excellence Award, presented to schools and organisations that show outstanding dedication to social innovation education. The award was marked with the presentation of a plaque.
The award recognises the guidance provided by teacher and YSI Mentor Martina McNamara, whose support has been central to the project’s success.
Over the past nine years, students at Gaelcholáiste an Chláir and Ennis Community College have launched a succession of projects, and raised an impressive €30,000 for the St Vincent de Paul shop in Ennis, with which the school enjoys a strong partnership.
