The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard launched one of their rescue boats and made their to the area. The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, was also sent to the scene.

A body, believed to be that of a woman, was recovered by Coast Guard volunteers shortly after 6.00pm and taken back to their base at Doolin.
