The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was called out this evening to assist a in difficulty on the River Shannon in Co Galway.
The team was alerted at 4.45pm and requested to respond to the scene about 8km North of Portumna.
The vessel, with one adult and one child on board, was reported to be drifting after losing power in its engine.
While a boat crew launched from Killaloe a land crew also travelled to Portumna by road. At 5.35pm the Killaloe rescue boat reached the vessel and found everyone to be safe and well.
A Coast Guard volunteer was transferred to the vessel and a tow line was set up. The casualty vessel was then taken on tow back to the slipway in Portumna where it was recovered from the water onto a trailer. The team was stood and return to station.
A Coast Guard spokesman said: “We would like to thank the staff at Portumna bridge who opened the bridge to let us assist the vessel.”
The operation was coordinated by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue sub centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
