Cyclist fatally injured in road traffic collision near Tulla

An elderly woman has died following a road traffic collision in East Clare this afternoon.

The incident, involving a tractor and a pedal cyclist, occurred at around 12.45pm on the L3180 local road at Toonagh, Tulla.

National Ambulance Service paramedics, GardaĆ­ and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station all responded to the scene.

The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance was also dispatched to the incident. The helicopter, Aeromed-01, was able to land close to the scene.

A female cyclist in her 70s sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

No other injuries have been reported.

GardaĆ­ have confirmed that the road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators while they have also issued an appeal for witnesses.

A Garda spokesperson said: ā€œAny road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 12noon-1pm today, Saturday 24th May 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaĆ­.
